Please note , that the xDrive AWD System system is mainly essentially a clutch , that can be gradually opened and closed in stages to regulate the maximum torque towards to the front wheels. It is not an active differential , like as found in off-road vehicles. That

This means that the maximum power split between the axles is 50/50 Frontfront/Rearrear, while the minimum is 0/100 Frontfront/Rearrear. It is technically not possible impossible to send more than 50% of the power to the front wheels with this system. The Stability System stability system (DSC) and the Transfer-Case transfer case unit (VGSG) coordinate to set the max. torque which is transmitted maximum torque to be transferred to the front wheels , depending on the driving situation. The main inputs are:

  • Output Torque output from the Transmission transmission (or Engine)

  • Steering Wheel Anglewheel angle

  • ABS operation

This means that the power split between the front and rear is 0/100 Frontfront/Rearrear. Please note , that the xDrive clutch is submerged immersed in oil and therefore a small amount of power will always reach the front wheels, even if when the clutch is fully open. For instance, on On a lift, for example, all 4 four wheels will still turnbe turning, but you can easily can easily hold the front wheels still with your bare hands.
