Will xHP work

...

with my specific engine tune?

Yes, in general, xHP does will work together with every any engine tune. The most common engine tune-Apps are:

  • MHD - Does have a checkbox that needs to be ticked, to ensure optimal performance, see the next question below.

  • BM3 - Works out of the box with xHP and with Stage 2 and higher, BM3 also recommends to use xHP Flashtool, together with their engine tunes.

  • MGFlasher - Does work out of the box as well.

See our article about line-pressure for more in-depth details, regarding communication between ECU and TCU.

I am using MHD. What Map version should I flash?

For most cars MHD offers a dedicated “xHP Transmission Setting”. In all other cases just select “Manual Transmission” in MHD. (yes, this is not a typo)

...

However, there are some things to consider for optimal performance.

  • MHD - For 6-speed cars, MHD offers a specific custom option for xHP flashed cars. This option will slightly alter torque management and can further improve shifting. On 8-speed or DCT cars, there are no special options inside MHD. All the MHD OTS maps will work fine.

  • BM3 - All BM3 OTS Maps are tested and work fine with xHP.

  • MGFlasher - All MG Flasher OTS Maps are tested and work fine with xHP.

My DME tuning app offers a “TCU Torque Limiter fix”, shall I use that?

This option sets the DME (engine controller) to ignore some or all torque limiting requests from the transmission and is a bandaid to circumvent the stock Torque Limiters stored inside the transmission (TCU). It is not necessary with xHP.
Activating such an option has many detrimental effects, such as slow, spongy shifts, circumventing safety-relevant limitations, shortened transmission lifespan, Launch Control not working correctly, etc. For optimal performance, such options must not be activated.

I already have a flash tune (MHD, BM3, MG flasher, custom tune, etc.) on my ECU (

...

engine). Do I

...

have to uninstall it before using xHP?

No. xHP has no direct effect on does not directly affect your existing Engine tune.

engine tune, and the order in which the engine and transmission tunes are flashed does not matter.

I've got a piggyback module, like a JB4, installed. Can I flash xHP?

Yes, xHP will work on JB4 piggyback module-equipped cars, but you have to remove it before flash and install again. On our test cars setting JB4 to Map 0 was not enough, as JB4 was still disturbing communication to the TCU. This possibly depends on the JB4 revision you are usingmay need to disable the piggyback module before starting a flash.
In rare cases, the piggyback module must be physically disconnected during the flash operation.
