Will xHP work with my specific engine tune?

Yes, in general xHP will work with any engine tune. The most common tuning applications are:However, there are some things to consider for optimal performance.

  • MHD - Has a checkbox that needs to be ticked to ensure optimum performance. See the next question below.

  • BM3 - Works out of the box with xHP and Stage 2 and higher. BM3 also recommend using xHP Flashtool along with their engine tunes.

  • MGFlasher - Also works out of the box.

See our line-pressure article for more in-depth details regarding communication between ECU and TCU.

With MHD, which "transmission selection" should I choose?

...

  • For 6-Speed cars MHD offers a specific custom option for xHP flashed cars. This option will slightly alter torque management and can further improve shifting. On 8-Speed or DCT cars there are no special options inside MHD. All the MHD OTS maps will work fine.

  • BM3 - All BM3 OTS Maps are tested and work fine along with xHP.

  • MGFlasher - All MG Flasher OTS Maps are tested and work fine along with xHP.

My DME tuning-app offers a “TCU Torque Limiter fix”, shall I use that?

This option sets the DME (engine controller) to ignore some or all torque limiting requests from the transmission. This is a bandaid to circumvent the stock Torque Limiters stored inside the transmission (TCU) and is not necessary with xHP. Activating such an option has many detrimental effects, such as slow, spongy shifts, circumenventing of safety relevant limitations, shortened transmission life-span, Launch Control not working properly etc. For optimal performance such options must not be activated.

I already have a flash tune (MHD, BM3, MG flasher, custom tune, etc.) on my ECU (engine). Do I have to uninstall it before using xHP?

No. xHP does not directly affect your existing engine tune, and the order in which the engine and transmission tunes are flashed does not matter.

I've got a JB4 installed. Can I flash xHP?

Yes, xHP will work on JB4-equipped cars, but you must remove and reinstall it before flashing. Setting JB4 to “map 0” was not enough on our test cars, as JB4 still interfered with communication with the TCU. This might depend on the JB4 revision you are usingmay need to disable JB4 before starting a flash. In rare cases, JB4 needs to be physically disconnected during the flash operation.
