.

Most of the 3, 5 and 6 - Series cars (E9x & E6x -Seriesseries, Prepre-Faceliftfacelift) where equipped with a faulty dash software, were fitted with outdated dashboard firmware which is unable to display a gear number in S-Mode.

When S-Mode is engaged, most of these cars display a red Gearbox-Error sign in the dash“Gearbox Error sign” on the dashboard. Therefore the Gear-Display gear display is not active per-standard by default in the xHP Maps maps for those these cars.

You can try to activate to enable it by yourself through using the Gear Display Feature in xHP’s the xHP Customization Module, but we can’t guarantee it will work. Unfortunately, there is no way of checking upfront if a certain car is affected by that or not.
If this does not work, you will need to update the firmware.

Info

The only way to fix this error, is to install an LCI instrument clusterTo fix this issue your Instrument Clusters firmware needs to be updated via WinKFP.
The car, we tested was firmware - version: 9197106.

The Gear indicator gear display does show the “target gear” shows the "target gear" of the transmission, which is why it does change so it changes to the new gear at the beginning of the gear shift shifting process.

This is why For this reason, in slower shift modes, the Gear-Indicator gear display jumps to the next gear about 0.5 seconds before the driver recognises notices the shifting process gear change itself.

In faster shift modes, the shifting process shift is much shorter, which is why it is that so noticeable.
