General

To safely flash your TCU, you must use the correct hardware and prepare your vehicle. Please make sure you don't have any mechanical problems with your gearbox. xHP won't fix bad mechanics. Never. If you're already experiencing jerky shifts, mis-shifts or bucking, your transmission probably needs to be serviced or repaired before you flash it.

Do not use xHP on gearboxes that are not in full working order.

xHP does not flash transmissions or controllers outside the vehicle (Bench flashing).

Operation is restricted to in-car use in supported BMW vehicles only.

Why can I not connect to/flash my car?

Although we have optimised the flashing process to work on as many devices as possible and to be as stable as possible, there are still factors beyond our control that can interrupt the flashing process.

The flash method used by xHP is 100% safe for your TCU! You won't be able to brick it.

Follow these steps to find out why your flash may not be ready.

Step 1: Check you have the latest version of the app

Always make sure you are flashing the latest viable version of the app on either platform. We are constantly improving the app, adding new features, and supporting cars, so you want the app to be up to date.

Android Version

Apple Version

Windows 10 Version

If your app version is not the latest, DO NOT uninstall the old app, only update it via the App Store.

Step 2: Check for overlooked preparation steps

As there are several steps to follow, one or more preparations may have been overlooked. Make sure you have completed all the preparations:

Step 3: Check your flashing hardware

We recommend high-quality flashing equipment, as cheap DCAN cables can cause intermittent flashes. See our recommended flashing hardware.

Step 4: Check for aftermarket CAN bus devices

Any aftermarket device connected to the CAN bus (such as a JB4) must be disconnected/switched off before flashing any ECU on your vehicle. Examples of devices that may cause problems with any flash operation:

  • throttle pedal tuning boxes

  • any performance displays (like Awron)

  • sport-exhaust with sound control installed in the car

  • aftermarket Android Headunits

  • aftermarket CarPlay Units

  • aftermarket HUD (head-up displays)

  • aftermarket immobilisers, like the “Ghost immobiliser”

  • Mileage manipulation devices

Step 5: If all else fails, do not hesitate to contact us

If none of the above helps, please click on "Send Logs" in the menu to the left so that we can have a closer look. Let us know when you sent it and what email you use to log in to the app.

Write to us directly at support@xautomotive.com and please include the following information so that we can help you as quickly as possible:

  • Which application are we talking about, xHP or xDelete?

  • A brief description of the problem

  • Your car's full VIN

  • The email you used to log in to the application, so we can find your log faster

  • If you get an error message, a screenshot of the exact error message

  • What aftermarket equipment you have installed on the car, such as a tuning throttle pedal, etc?

  • The exact flashing equipment you are using

Problems with your license/voucher codes

If you change your device or update your software, you must sign in to the app again using the same email account and login method you used the first time.

“We're sorry, but this voucher has already been redeemed.”

Voucher codes can only be redeemed once to unlock a car. This unlock is then tied to a sign-in method, such as "Continue with Google" and the email address you used with that sign-in.

This means you are most likely signed in with the wrong email account or login method.

If you are still signed in, go to 'About', click 'Sign out', and then click 'Sign in'.

You will see a button that says 'Find your account'. Click it and follow the instructions.

It will show you which account is associated with your license and the method you need to use to sign in again (e.g. "Continue with Google" in the picture below):

Should this not work, please send us the full VIN of the car at support@xautomotive.com, and then we can look it up manually.

“VoucherProductMismatchareion”

You are trying to redeem a product with the wrong type of voucher code, please make sure you only use map pack vouchers for map packs and flash license vouchers to unlock flash licenses.

Be aware, that you need to redeem a Flash license first, before you are be able to redeem a Map Pack.

“NoInternetConnectionWhileRedeemingVoucher”

  • Make sure you have a fast and active internet connection.

  • If you are using a Wifi or ENET adapter, be sure to unplug the adapter and turn off Flight Mode to get an active Internet connection and redeem the voucher. After redeeming the voucher, reconnect the Wifi or ENET adapter and switch Flight Mode back on.

Why is this necessary?

As smartphones tend to prefer a WiFi and Ethernet connection to a cellular connection (3G/4G/5G), some devices may ignore the existing Internet connection they have as long as a WiFi or ENET adapter is connected.

This means that to redeem vouchers, download maps, etc., these adapters must be temporarily disconnected.

When using the WiFi adapter, be sure to follow these steps

  1. Go to the Wifi menu

  2. Connect to the Wi-Fi adapter

  3. Click Connect so the car gets recognised

  4. Click on “flash license”

  1. Turn Wifi OFF to disconnect from the adapter

  2. Redeem your voucher via 4G/5G connection

  3. Turn both Wifi ON and flight mode ON again

  4. Now you should be ready to flash

When using the ENET cable, be sure to follow these steps

  1. Set the correct IP address & click Connect

  2. unplug the adapter and turn OFF flight mode

  3. Click “flash license”

  4. Redeem your voucher

  1. Plug the adapter & ENET cable back in

  2. Click Connect so the car gets recognised

  3. Turn flight mode back ON

  4. Now you should be ready to flash
